Windows XP Dial-Up Instructions

These instructions will help you setup Internet Explorer on your system and configure the settings for Dickey Rural Networks.

Tip: check off the steps as you complete them.

  1. Start the Internet Connection Wizard by clicking the Start Button, then click Control Panel, then click Network and Internet Connections, then click Setup or Change Internet Connection.
  2. On the Internet Properties screen, on the Connection Tab select: Setup. The New Connection Wizard appears, Click Next.
  3. On the Network Connection Type screen choose: First Choice Connect to the Internet. Click Next.
  4. At the Getting Ready screen: Select the second option; Set up my Connection Manually. Click Next.
  5. At the How do you want to connect to the Internet screen: Select the first choice, Connect using a dial-up modem.
  6. At the Connection Name screen: type DRS-Net where it says ISP Name. Then click Next.
  7. On the Phone number to dial screen: enter the Dial-in phone number as shown above. Then click Next.
  8. At the Internet account Information screen:

    • Enter your user name, enter your password, and confirm your password.
    • Below leave all the check marks as default (All Checked).
    • Be sure to Check the box Add Shortcut to this Connection to my desktop.
    • Click Finish.
  9. Double click on the shortcut on your desktop and select Connect.
